11 Things About the June Solstice

 

20th April - Year 6 visit to the Lancashire Mining Museum

Our Year 6 children enjoyed a visit to Lancashire Mining Museum at Astley Green today to start their new topic off with awe and wonder. The children will be learning all about 'A Change in Time' this term and today they looked at what life was like working at a colliery. They found out about coal mining and evolution at this fantastic local site of interest.

17th May - Football winners!

Well done to our undefeated girls football team who won the ATSA girls cup tonight. They all put on fantastic performances across the pitch, even saving 3 out of 5 penalties! Well done girls. 

Week beginning 22nd May - Sports Days

 This week we have welcomed the fantastic weather as we celebrated our annual sports day events across school. All of the children successfully took part in a variety of events throughout the week and they enjoyed every second. A special thank you to our Play Leaders, who helped to organise and run the events this week. 

 

14th June - ATHOS Singing Festival

Week beginning 12th May

It has been wonderful to formerly welcome our new Nursery and Reception parents and carers to our school this week as we held our intake meetings. Everyone had the opportunity to find out a little bit more about life at Garrett Hall and also look around our fantastic early years environments. 

26th June - Tri-Kidz

Another fantastic first place for our Tri-Kidz Team today. The children showed amazing resilience over a grueling running and cycling course. 

25th June - Art Exhibition

 

Our second whole school art exhibition was a great success again this year. The artwork produced was incredible and all children from Nursery through to Year 6 had a piece of work on display. Well done everyone!

6th July - Year 5 class assembly

Our very talented year 5 children put on a fantastic assembly performance for their parents and carers today. The singing and acting was out of this world as they told us all about their topic work 'Project Wild Thing'. 

13th July - Rounders Team

Our wonderful Year 4 rounders team took part in a competition today and performed brilliantly. Their smiles say it all! Well done team. 

17th July - Year 6 celebrations!

Year six enjoyed a day filled with fun today as they celebrated their time with us at Garrett Hall. The day finished with a disco and entertainment as they countdown their final days with us. 

24th - 26th April - Year 4 residential trip to the Anderton Centre in Rivington

Our Year 4 children had a fantastic time at the Anderton Centre this week. We are very proud of how brave they were on all of the activities, including tree climbing, paddle boarding, archery, kayaking, tackling the low ropes and lots more!

17th May - Golfing fun

Our wonderful golfing team enjoyed themselves at Boomers and Swingers again this week.

12th May - Year 6 celebrations!

We are very proud of our wonderful Year 6 children who have worked so hard this week during their SATs. They have shown dedication and resilience all week and deserved their ice cream treat on the field to celebrate this afternoon. 

5th May -  Coronation celebration

The children across school today came dressed in their finest clothes to celebrate the Coronation of our new King - Charles III. 9th June - Coffee Morning

Thank you to all those who attended our termly coffee morning today. It was lovely to see you there. 

14th June - Netball champions

Our fantastic netball team have done it again! They took part in the ATHOS netball competition and won both their games 5-1 and 6-2. Well done girls!

22nd June ATSA Mosaic Project   

After taking part in the ATSA community mosaic project last year, we were invited to the unveiling of the final piece this week. It is a beautiful piece of artwork created by the children in our local area which will be there for many years to come!

28th June & 5th July - INSPIRE

It has been wonderful to welcome all of our new Nursery and Reception children into school recently to complete their transition visits in time for them joining us in September 2023. We can't wait for you all to start your school journey with us.

10th July - Year 6 trip to Low Bank Ground

Low Bank Ground | Holiday bunkhouses, Lake District

Our Year 6 children have enjoyed a fantastic residential week at Low Bank Ground in Coniston. They took part in lots of fun activities, overcoming fears, building confidence and showing amazing team work. It was a lovely way to end their journey at Garrett Hall with memories to last a life time. 

28th April - Year 2 trip to Kenyan Hall Farm

The children in Year 2 enjoyed a trip to Kenyan Hall Farm today to learn all about plants, growing and life cycles as part of their topic work. 

4th May - Leigh Leopards visit school

 Thank you to Leigh Leopards for coming to visit our school today to tell us all about diversity and inclusion within sport. The children had lots of fun in the assembly. 

4th May - Footgolf!

       

Well done to our Year 3 footgolf team, who had a fantastic time at Boomers and Swingers today. 

11th May - Eden Play delivery

 

Today we took delivery of a fantastic new mud kitchen and balance scales from Eden Play. Our school has been chosen from 1000's of entries to product test, review and keep these wonderful resources. We know that the children are going to love playing with them!

25th May - The sound of Music!

This half term our Reception children have enjoyed working with our specialist music teacher to develop their music knowledge and skills. The rest of the school already have weekly music lesson and now our early years children can also join them in playing musical instruments  and keeping the beat to music and rhythm. 

14th - 16th May - Bibby's Farm Residential

 Our Year Two children have had a fantastic time at Bibby's Farm this week on their very first school residential. They took part in lots of fun activities including rafting, rock climbing, orienteering, grass sledging, pedal car racing and exploring a cave bus!

15th June - Year 5 trip to Astley Green Mining Museum 

As part of their work on the John Muir Award, our Year Five children enjoyed a trip to the Astley Green Colliery Museum this week. 

21st June - Year 5 visit to Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Our lovely Year 5 children had a fantastic day at Yorkshire Sculpture Park today. 

30th June - Year 6 police talk

Our local police officers came to visit our Year 6 children this week to deliver crime workshops and equip them with knowledge ready for their transition to high school. 

6th July - Reception Farm visit

Our very excited Reception children enjoyed a visit from Little Barn Mobile Farm today. They got to meet lots of animals including, Tim the 6 week old calf, two very cheeky goats, lambs and lots more. It was a lovely way to explore their topic work on 'Paws, claws and whiskers'. 

13th & 14th July - Year 2 assemblies

4V's Class Assembly – John Perry Primary School

Our lovely year 2 children put on a fantastic performance of their assembly this week. They told us all about the work they have completed this year through song, acting and comedy! Well done year 2. 

19th July - St. Georges church leavers service

It was lovely to join our local schools for a service at St. Georges Church today to celebrate the end of an era for our Year 6 pupils before they move onto their next chapter.
