Summer News and Events 2026
21st April - Karate

Thank you to Red Toger Karate for coming into school and delivering our KS1 and KS2 assemblies today. The children all enjoyed their demonstrations.
7th May - Golf taster

Our Y5 children enjoying the ATSA Golf Taster at Boomers and Swingers Golf ⛳️
6th May - Orienteering
This is our Orienteering team enjoying the School Game OAA event at Pennington Flash.
15th May - Goodbye Mr Halliwell


Today we said a final goodbye to our much loved caretaker. Mr Halliwell retires after being at our school for nearly 18 years. We will miss him dearly, but wish him well in his retirement and next adventure. The children and staff gave him a true Garrett Hall send off with a wonderful assembly.
15th June - Year 5 & 6 Sports Day

Well done to all the Year 5 and 6 children who took part in their sports day today. We managed to be lucky with the weather for once! Special mention to Henfold for winning the Y5/6 the events this year!
Week beginning 8th June - Walk to school week

Well done to Mr McMahon's class for winning our Walk to School Week competition. Our eco champions! 🌏
INSPIRE DAYS

It was lovely to welcome our new Nursery and Reception children and families to their Inspire sessions this term. We are looking forward to September when you join our Garrett Hall family.
8th & 9th July - Year 6 show

A massive well done to all of our wonderful year 6 children and staff who put on wonderful performances of their end of year show, We will miss you as you embark on your next adventures but wish you all the luck in the world. We know you will be amazing!
14th July - Cricket

Thank you to Ted and Lancashire Cricket Foundation for coming in and working with all of our Y3 and Y4 today. For those who loved the sessions there are plenty of cricket camps on at Astley and Tyldesely Cricket this summer.
Week beginning 20th April - The Barnabus Project
Children across the school from Nursery to Year 6 have taken part in a special STEM project this week to provide special escape plans for Barnabus! Ask your children all about it... we have seen some wonderful inventions!
Week beginning 5th May - Nursery Stay and Learn

Thank you to all parents and carers who joined us for our very first Nursery Stay and Learn sessions. It was lovely to see you and we hope that you found it useful.
11th May - Football

Congratulaitons to our girls football team who won the Girls’ ATSA Football Cup Competition today. You were all amazing, well done!
14th May - Rounders

A massive well done to our Year 3 and 4 rounders team who braved the weather today and won the ATSA rounders competition! Amazing!
15th May - John Muir

Our year 5 children have started their John Muir project this half term. This will consist of lots of field work and links to their Geography studies learning about the environment around them.
10th - 12th June - Bibby's Farm
Our Year 2 children enjoyed a wet and muddy residential trip to Bibby's Farm this week. They took part in lots of activities despite the rain such as the climbing wall, orienteering, grass sledging, pedal cars, climbing wall and the cave bus. Well done on your first school residential!
Week beginning 15th June - Garret Hall World Cup Celebration
Every class took part in our football competition this week run by UK Sports Coaching. Congratulations to Chaddock who were our overall winners!
July - Year 6 transition days

Our Year six children have enjoyed their taster sessions at their chosen high schools this month. We would like to wish them every success as they move onto their next chapter.

22nd April - Year 1 trip to Jodrell Bank
Our year one children enjoyed their trip to Jodrell Bank today as part of their topic work on Space.
23rd April - Year 2 trip to Kenyon Hall Farm

Our Year 2 children had fun at the farm today as they discovered more about plants and growth as part of their science topic work.
29th April - 1st May - Year 4 residential

Our Year 4 children enjoyed three days at the Anderton Centre in Rivington this week taking part in various activities such as tree climbing, rafting, archery and low ropes to name a few! They had a wonderful experience and developed their resilence and confidnece skills throughout,
Week beginning 11th May - SATs

A massive well done to all of our wonderful Year 6 children who have worked so hard in their SATs this week. Their determination and resilience is a credit to them all. Well done,, we are all so proud of you!
5th June - Music Alive
The children throughout school enjoyed an assembly from Wigan Music Service today showcasing the wonderful instruments that the children may like to learn about in the future.
16th June - Just Join In

Well done to our Inclusive Athletics team who took part in the School Games Just Join In event. The children took part in a range of inclusive activities and were a credit to our school.
7th July - Sports Days
Congratulations to Henfold for winning the Y3/Y4 Sports Day this year 🏆
In total it was also a 3-1 win to the ladies in the tug of war this year!

A massive well done also to our Nursery children, who ttok part in their very first sports day! You were all amazing!
9th July - Year 4 Music concert
Yesterday, 4B proudly performed in their Year 4 Music Wider Opportunities Concert. Throughout the year, the children have learnt to play a string instrument, choosing from the cello, violin or viola and they have made amazing progress. Well done children!
