Summer Term Events 2022

20th April - Composition Workshop

Some of our upper KS2 children took a trip to Leigh Sports Village this afternoon for a composition workshop, working with members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This is to help write lyrics for the UEFA Women's EURO 2022 tournament anthem that will feature at matches and fan zones throughout the competition. How exciting!

26th April - Year 1 trip to RHS Bridgewater

Our Year 1 children enjoyed a fun-packed day at RHS Bridgewater today, where they took part in lots of practical horticultural, art and science activities. The children thoroughly enjoyed their first ever school trip and were a credit to Garrett Hall. 

5th May - ATSA Kick Golf Taster session

 Some of our lower junior children enjoyed a Kick Golf taster session at Boomers and Swingers Golf Driving Range this week. They were encouraged to try out new skills and had lots of fun.

May - Special arrivals in Nursery and Reception 

We have been very excited this week to watch the ducklings hatch in Reception and the chicks hatch in Nursery. All eggs have hatched safely and the children are enjoying watching our new arrivals grow and thrive. 

  

Week Beginning 23rd May - HH Kids visit

This week, Wigan's HH Kids have been visiting our Year 6 classes to deliver some of our PSHE curriculum. They have been learning about relationships, thoughts and feelings, puberty and body changes. The children have shown maturity and understanding during these sessions. 

27th May - Change4life

Our Change4life group enjoyed celebrating the Jubilee in their morning club today by looking forward to the Common Wealth Games in the Summer.

9th June - Year 5 John Muir

Our Year 5 children started their John Muir project today with their first environmental visit. The children were lucky enough to have glorious weather when they explored the local area, took part in magic spots and made scent cocktails and elderflower cordial.

June - Netball

Our school netball teams have started to take part in a series of matches against other local schools. They have so far been commended for their outstanding sportsmanship and skills. Well done girls!

15th June - ATHOS Music Festival

Our talented lower key stage 2 choir had a fantastic time taking part in the ATHOS Music Festival today at St. George's Church. They celebrated singing with other school choirs and even learned a brand new song to share with everyone back at at school.

2022-2023 Nursery & Reception new intakes

Our New Reception Starters – Lickey Hills Primary School and Nursery

It has been lovely to meet some of our new Nursery and Reception families over the past few weeks at our intake meetings. They all had the opportunity to talk to the staff who will be teaching their children next year, see the classroom environments and even try some of our delicious school meals!

Our very talented Year 4 children showed off their skills on their stringed instruments yesterday in a concert for their grown ups. They have made fantastic progress this year through Wider Opportunities program. Well done Year 4! 

Year 6 residential at Low Bank Ground - week beginning 11th July

Our Year 6 children are having a fantastic time at Low Bank Ground in Coniston this week. They have completed lots of activities including gill scrambling, walking and water sports. A what a fantastic way to finish off their last few weeks with us at Garrett Hall.

18th July - Year 6 leavers party

Our wonderful year 6 children had a fantastic time at their levers disco in school tonight. They braved the heatwave and managed to enjoy lots of dancing and games with a brilliant entertainer!

4th May - Water Polo competition

A huge well done to our water polo team, who won every game in their league!

They only narrowly missed out on winning the final too! What superstars!

Key Stage 2 Coding Club

The children in Key Stage 2 have been enjoying taking part in our coding club and exploring the virtual Minecraft world together.

19th May - Road Safety Visit

Wigan Road Safety team visited school this week to deliver workshops for our Year 6 children. The children revisited basic road safety rules before talking about moving to High School and developing Independence and road awareness. They talked about the importance of crossing roads in safe places and being aware of how electric cars are silent and less easily heard.

Our Key Stage 2 children have been enjoying learning the art of French conversation this half term with Mrs Hughes. They have learnt how to design a monster, describe an outfit that they wear, read a menu and also role play in a snack bar! 

 

May - Let's Get Cooking!

Our upper junior children continue to work with Mrs Roscoe making a wide range of recipes and they always smell delicious! Well done everyone, and thank you to Mrs Roscoe for planning the menus and teaching the children all about healthy food choices. 

10th June - Music Alive visit school

Our children were treated to a live concert from the Music Alive Brass Ensemble from Wigan Music Service today. We all enjoyed learning about the different brass instruments and the science behind the sounds being made.

June 15th - 17th - Year 2 Residential to Bibby's Farm

We have been privileged to take our Year 2 children on a residential visit to Bibby's Farm in Chorley this week. The children have been utterly amazing and enjoyed taking part in activities such as rafting, grass sledging, go-karting, orienteering and becoming super brave on the climbing wall and in the cave bus!

Some of our upper junior Tri Kids team have taken part in the ATSA 10 year celebration this week and came in 3rd place! Our girls also got the record time out of all 16 teams!

Year 3 trip to Bibby's Farm - 3rd - 5th July 

It was Year 3's turn this week to go for their first ever residential at Bibby's Farm in Chorley. The children have amazed us with their determination and enthusiasm when taking part in activities such as rafting, grass sledging, go-karting, orienteering and on the climbing wall and cave bus!

We would like to thank everyone who came to support us at our Fun Day this year and to all the families and businesses who have supported us in raising such a fantastic amount of money for our school. We made a massive £3866!!! Wow!!!

15th July - Year 5 class assembly 

A huge well done to all of year 5 who shared their fantastic John Muir assembly and workshop this afternoon. Thank you so much to our families for taking part and being such good sports. The children had lots of fun and enjoyed sharing their learning with everyone.

27th April - Year 5 visit Sale Sharks AO

Our Year 5 children took part in the Sale Sharks AO school festival today. They enjoyed playing tag rugby with other schools, meeting the team players and mascot, as well as being introduced to Jason Robinson MBE! The children were invited to play against members of the first team and might even make an appearance on the ITV news! It was a fantastic day!

28th April - ATSA Golf Taster session

Our Year 5/6 golf team attended the ATSA taster session at Boomers and Swingers Golf Driving Range. The children loved taking part in both golf relays and a 6-hole round of golf. 

 

9th May - ATSA Girls football 

Well done to our girls football team who played in the ATSA Girls Cup tonight. They won 3 out of their 4 games - fantastic! Well done girls. 

20th May -Stage Stars Academy showcase

In our 'Achievers and Believers' assembly this week we were treated to an incredible performance from the children who attend Stage Stars Academy. They showed off their professionalism and talent from a recent show they had completed at the Bolton Albert Halls Theatre. You were all amazing, thank you for sharing your hard work with us!

23rd May - ATHOS Mosaic art work

Some of our budding artists went to St. George's Central today to take part in the making of a Tyldesley mosaic to be positioned on the Guided Busway. Along with other schools from the local area, they designed and made clay tiles that will be used to make up the mosaic. We can't wait to see the finished product!

     

May 27th - A visit from 'Our Queen'!

The children have had a lovely day today celebrating the Queen's Jubilee. They have enjoyed lots of fun activities in class, a royal picnic, parades and even a visit from our very own Queen!

Sports Days!

All of the children in school have taken part in fantastic sports days this term to celebrate sporting achievements and take part in lots of fun physical activities. We have even been lucky enough to enjoy lovely weather for all of the events!

21st June - Year 4 visit to Rivington

Our year 4 children have been on a trip to Rivington today as part of their Geography field work study in school. The sun was shining and the children were impeccably behaved. 

15th & 16th June - visit to the Anderton Centre in Rivington

Children from years 4 and 5 have been to the Anderton Centre in Rivington this week to experience tree climbing, orienteering, paddle boarding and kayaking. They have all had an amazing time and we couldn't be prouder of their achievements. 

Nursery and Reception INSPIRE sessions - June/July

We have enjoyed welcoming our 2022-2023 new Nursery and Reception children into school for their INSPIRE sessions this half term. We were very excited to meet you all and can't wait to see you again soon.

What a fantastic performance year 6 put on for their end of year show 'Gill and Fred's Hysterical Historical Adventure!' It was a celebration of everything they have experienced at Garrett Hall and I don't think there was a dry eye in the audience! Well done Year 6... you are amazing!!
